Wet hire means the machine arrives with a certified, insured operator. Dry hire means you supply your own operator and USF supplies only the equipment. Almost all heavy plant rental in the UAE — excavators, breakers, crushers — is wet hire by default.
Why wet hire dominates in the UAE
UAE labour law and site insurance requirements make operator certification and liability a serious consideration. Wet hire shifts operator competency, insurance and licensing risk onto the rental company, which is why almost every serious contractor defaults to it.
When dry hire makes sense
Dry hire suits contractors with their own trained, licensed operators already on payroll and idle machine-hours to fill — typically larger fleets supplementing owned equipment during peak demand. It is rarely the right call for a one-off rental.
