Screening Bucket Mesh Sizes: A Practical Selection Guide
How to pick the right screen size for backfill, sub-base or topsoil — and why guessing costs money.
Why mesh size matters
The wrong screen size either leaves too much oversize material in your "screened" output, or wastes time re-screening already-fine material — matching mesh to end use is the whole point of the attachment.
Backfill and sub-base fractions
Coarser mesh (typically 40–80 mm) suits general backfill and sub-base aggregate, where some larger fragments are acceptable and speed matters more than fineness.
Topsoil and finishing fractions
Fine mesh (10–25 mm) is needed for topsoil and any material going into finished landscaping — slower throughput, but the only way to hit a usable finished-grade product.
Interchangeable screens on our fleet
Our screening buckets carry interchangeable screen sizes, so we match the fraction to your project spec on site rather than sending a fixed configuration that may not fit the job.
