Hydraulic Breaker Energy Class: A Sizing Guide for UAE Sites
Joules, blows per minute and tool weight — what the numbers on a breaker spec sheet actually mean for your job.
What impact energy actually measures
A breaker's rated impact energy (in joules) is roughly what determines how fast it breaks a given material — undersized for the job and you're paying for machine-hours the breaker can't use; oversized and you risk carrier and tool damage.
Matching to carrier weight
As a rule of thumb, tool weight should sit around 8–10% of carrier operating weight — a 1,500 kg class tool on a PC220, scaling up to 3,000–4,500 kg class on a PC400 and heavier carriers.
Blows per minute vs energy
Higher blow frequency suits softer, more brittle material; lower frequency with higher single-blow energy suits dense reinforced concrete and rock. We size the tool to the material, not just the carrier.
Getting the pairing right
Tell us your material — slab, foundation, rock — and carrier class, and we'll confirm the correct breaker size before dispatch, not after the first day of underperformance.
