Excavator Bucket Types and Capacities: What to Specify on Your Quote
General purpose, trenching, rock and grading buckets each do a different job — here's the difference.
General purpose buckets
The default bucket for mixed digging — wide enough for production, versatile enough for most soil and light rubble work. Fitted as standard unless you specify otherwise.
Trenching buckets
Narrower profile for utility trenching and pipeline work where a wide bucket would over-excavate and waste backfill material — specify this if your job is mostly linear trenching.
Rock buckets
Reinforced with heavier tines for rock and hard-pan digging where a standard bucket would wear excessively or struggle to penetrate.
Grading buckets
Flat-edged for finish grading and levelling work, typically the last tool used on a site before handover.
